Hello compers! How is your week going, any nice wins to report? No wins for me for February as yet, but I did win a selection of Soft & Gentle sprays from their caption contest on Instagram over the weekend – all good! I love Instagram competitions, especially those that require you to actually upload a photo or create a caption. The entry levels are still really low, so if you get the chance do go on and have a look around at what comps are available!
Can’t quite believe we are in February if I am honest – seems like only yesterday that it was Christmas! My youngest daughter turned 5 at the weekend, and my eldest is off on her first school residential trip next week – so time really is flying! The shops are filled with Valentine’s Day cards, gifts and goodies, and soon we will all be entering competitions that require us to write poems, share our Valentine’s bakes and romantic stories. There are always loads of nice creative competitions around at this time of the year, so make sure you get plenty of practice in baking those heart-shaped cookies, put pen to paper and rattle off a few witty love poems and start wracking you brains for all those interesting romantic anecdotes you would like to share.
To kick things off here at Compers News we would like to offer you the chance to enter this month’s exclusive competition, in which you could win a fantastic Thornton’s “Love You More Than Chocolate” hamper! The bundle contains a delicious assortment of milk, white and dark chocolates, a Valentines chocolate heart plaque, caramel hearts, truffles and heart shaped lollies! All of this comes in a beautiful keepsake hamper box, to make it extra special. To win this lovely prize we want to know your dream romantic Valentine’s Day date. It could be sat in a log cabin sipping champagne before a roaring fire, watching the waves crash on a sandy deserted beach, or maybe skydiving from a heart shaped hot air balloon! Let your imagination run wild, and let us know what your ideal date would be. To enter you need to be a Compers News member, one entry per person (I will be checking!) and entries close at 23:59 on Tuesday 10th February 2015. Please remember your comments won’t go live instantly, as they need to be moderated. So get thinking and let us know how you would love to spend Valentine’s Day, and you could be tucking into some chocolate treats with someone special!
Happy comping and lots of Lucky Dust to you all!
Kirsty x
The prize is a “Love You More Than Chocolate” hamper from Thornton’s
If the prize becomes unavailable, we reserve the right to substitute it for a similar one of an equal or higher value
Open to UK residents aged 18 or over
Entrants must be registered Compers News users and logged in to their account
One entry per person
Entrants must leave a blog comment with their dream Valentine’s Day date
The closing date is 23:59 on Tuesday 10th February 2015
One winner will be chosen at random from all entries received
The winner will be notified by email within 7 days of the closing date, and must confirm their postal address within 28 days or an alternative winner will be selected

A surprise trip to Paris would be the ultimate date. Walks, cruises, shopping, theatre - the lot. I would love to be treated an amazing couture dress but also have a mooch around the antique markets and the art galleries for some real risqué stuff.

My ideal date would be to attend a big rock concert, with over night stay in a posh hotel with spa facilities, would love to rub shoulders with some of the big stars of rock, suppose I better take hubby as well......

Waking up early, with a coffee provided as breakfast in bed. Then going walkabouts maybe at Peak District and having a hearty lunch in a pub. Afterwards spa massage and sauna before a good steak and wine to finish the evening.

To be honest I'd be happy just to have a night away from the kids with my hubby. I'd love to go to a swanky hotel in London for an overnight stay, do some sightseeing and maybe a spot of shopping in the daytime, have pre-show cocktails and dinner followed by seeing something in the West End. In reality though it'll probably be a pizza in front of the TV!

I would love to stay in a reall posh country hotel, champagne, flowers and afternoon tea on arrival.
Then a nice walk in the hotel gardens before a fantastic dinner.

For me a dream valentines would be one where my husband would have booked us a surprise trip, children arranged to be looked after by grandparents and a luxury holiday just to completely pamper me rotten! Oh well, they don't call them dreams for no reason!

Because of complicated health issues it is difficult to get away so actually just being somewhere new and different together would be amazing, if it was warm and by the sea that would be stratospherically amazing! In fact scratch the romance bit if I swim in the sea I would love the whole world.

I have kids so the first 'dream' element would be a lie in followed by an opportunity to get ready without interruption. My partner and I would then drop the kids off with family ( dream element 2... A babysitter!) before jumping on the train to London. We'd enjoy romantic strolls , before a yummy afternoon tea. Then we'd go and buy me something sparkly, head to the west end to enjoy cocktails and a show before heading back to our 5 star hotel... And the best bit would be that all the different elements of the best day ever would be prize wins! A girl can dream

My dream is more an action replay from a train ride from York to Hull last Thursday but with a more interesting ending. Here I am, 61 year old widow, sitting on the platform waiting for the train with Jack my dog . I'm half an hour early and a man in a woolly hat, walked over to say hello to Jack. It was a freezing cold day and this fella didn't look particularly attractive, but I do like people who like my dog! We chatted about the weather, dogs and he made me laugh as he'd been 4 hours early for what turned out to be a 2hr training course he'd been advised to go on relating to his job as a Signals Manager on the Railways. Unfortunately the course was related to driving hazardous materials! Was this a bit of divine intervention, I ask myself now! Was he meant to meet me and Jack and travel together on an almost empty train?? On the train he took his hat off, he still had hair! he had a lovely smile, a good sense of humour and we chatted constantly about all sorts of things with ease. He lives in Withernsea, walks his dog on the beach almost every day, he was lovely and since losing my husband in 2008, I've never felt so comfortable in conversation alone with a man. We got off the train, chatted as we walked through the station. He said "I've thoroughly enjoyed our company and it's been a real pleasure to meet you." I thanked him and I went for my bus :( AARGHHHH!! This is what should have been the ending or maybe the beginning of a new chapter in my life! We walked through the station instead of saying our goodbyes, he calls me back, asks if I'd like to meet up at the weekend I say "Yes, that would be lovely" and he jots down my phone number and asks my name! He rings the following evening and we meet up over the weekend and walk along the beach with our dogs, with us both laughing at us both wearing woolly hats. We speak everyday on the phone, go out a few times for lunch and on Valentines Day he surprises me with ...........................................??? A SURPRISE!! ( Ah Well! An old gal can dream!!)

My ideal date would be the chance to chat and enjoy the company of an old special male friend who sadly I have lost contact with.-He always made me laugh even through some of the bleakest times of my life so for me forget the special places, flowers, chocolates or presents it would be a night in his company.

I would love a romantic trip on a steam train travelling through the countryside, complete with a delicious meal, champagne and being serenaded by a guitarist. Then a huge box of chocolates and bouquet of roses to take home would complete the day.

on a deserted Northumbrian beach we'd have a retreat for the weekend and a hot tub under the stars so that the cold didn't matter, we'd have a midnight picnic and drink prosecco and eat the chocolate dipped strawberries that I'd prepared earlier!

A surprise trip to Paris

To be honest I'd be happy just to have a night away from the kids with my hubby. I'd love to go to a swanky hotel in London for an overnight stay, do some sightseeing and maybe a spot of shopping in the daytime, have pre-show cocktails and dinner followed by seeing something in the West End. In reality though it'll probably be a pizza in front of the TV!
