Celebrate British Food Fortnight - Win a £50 Supermarket Voucher (CLOSED)

Hello everyone!  How is your week going, any nice wins to report?  Another Goodreads book for me and I also managed to win a nice Christmas gift for my youngest of a Playmobil horse set worth about £10.  This was from a caption contest on Facebook, which I really enjoy entering and have reasonable success with!  Nice to be able to start squirreling prizes away for Christmas now, I like to start early and get as much done before the end of October as I can!  Do you like to hide prizes away when you win them, or do you like to enjoy them straight away?  I am usually pretty bad at holding prizes back as I like to see the enjoyment on people’s faces, but this time of year I get more disciplined and force myself to keep the majority of items back!

Autumn has definitely arrived here on the Island, and we have been enjoying lots of nice walks along the coastline, through the woods and along the cliffs these last few weekends.  It is especially lovely to arrive home from a chilly autumn walk to a home-cooked goulash or stew simmering in the slow cooker, and a fresh loaf of bread cooking in the bread machine.  We try to buy as many Island-grown and made ingredients as we can, to help to support the local economy – it isn’t always practical or economical but we do what we can.  One way we can all try to support the national economy in its recovery is to buy and eat British food as much as we can.  Help your local British dairies, farmers and producers by looking out for stickers on your everyday food to show that they have been grown and raised in Britain.

To celebrate the variety of British Foods why not participate in British Food Fortnight, cooking up some tasty British recipes and using locally sourced produce.  British Food Fortnight runs from 19th September 2015 - 4th October 2015 and if you head along to the website you will be treated to a wide variety of information and advice on how best to celebrate this important event with your own family.  To help celebrate Compers News is giving away a lovely prize in our monthly prize draw, exclusively for members.  Leave me a comment below and tell me what your favourite British Dish is and I will select one winner to receive a £50 supermarket voucher of your choice from Asda, Tesco or Sainsbury’s. You could soon be stocking up on all sorts of yummy British foods including vegetables, fruit, cheese, milk and a roast meat joint for the weekend!  You need to be a registered Compers News member and logged into your account to join in, one comment per person and one winner will be drawn at random after the closing date of Tuesday 29th September 2015 at 23:59.

Happy comping and lots of Lucky Dust to you all!

Kirsty x

Fish and Chips with lots of salt and vinegar, ate out of the newspaper, seagulls squawking, waves crashing and enjoying the view over Woolacombe beach in Devon - happy memories!

My favourite dish is Cottage Pie with green beans

Haddock and chips with mushy peas :-)

Roast leg of Welsh lamb with garlic & rosemary stuffed into slits all around it - and that's what tonight's supper will be!

cod in crispy batter & chips

Plaice, chips and salad

Toad in the Hole has always been one of my favourite British dishes! It's a bit of an art form, but when you get it right, it's unbeatable!!

It would have to be Haddock and Chips eaten in a good Fish & Chip restaurant. Even nicer with mushy peas, bread & butter and a cup of tea or coffee. The haddock is lovely when the batter is crispy rather than soggy

roast beef with all the trimmings.
( Iam not anonymous, DiJones2

My favourite dish is Cottage Pie with red cabbage :)

A lovely rich Cottage Pie

Aunt Bessie's Toad in the Hole with gravy vegetarian variety

Mince and Tatties

scones!

Shepherds pie for us !!

Liver & Bacon, with Onion Mash

My Favourite British dish is:

Sausage & Mash with a delicious onion gravy served in a gravy boat

Good old bangers and mash

I love toad in the hole with lashings of gravy.

I think it has to be Roast Chicken, roast potatoes & parsnips, broccoli, carrots and loads of gravy :-)

It's got to be a good old Sunday roast with all the trimmings.

My favourite dish is fish and chips. battered cod, plenty of vinegar wrapped in paper of course

Yorkshire Pudding with onion gravy

Lancashire hot pot

gammon egg and chips

It has to be roast beef and Yorkshire pudding with roast and boiled potatoes, plus lots of fresh veg - all topped with thick gravy!

Toad in the hole (after much thought)

Something freshly caught from the sea off Dorset - such as fresh lobster...mmmmmmm (and perhaps a clotted cream scone to wash it down with!)

My favourite British Dish is Roast Pork with plenty of crackling

Roast Chicken and all the trimmings...

Bangers & mash for me!

Definitely the classic fish chips and curry sauce!

As a veggie I make my own bangers to ensure flavour but there is something very comforting about creamy mash, gloopy gravy and bangers. Something to shovel in when grey skies are closing in!

Has to be Lincolnshire sausage and mash with thick onion gravy

I used to love Bread & Butter pudding before I was diagnosed as a Coeliac. It's just not the same with Gluten Free bread :-(

Shepherd's pie with baby carrots...........yummy!

It would always be Chocolate and betroot cake, my speciality! But with so many apples around it now has to be apple crumble!

shepherds pie with baked beans!

I'm a steak & kidney girl, even better with a bit of black pudding in to thicken up the gravy, pop a suet pastry crust on the top & I'm in heaven. Add a few vegetables on the side, maybe a cheeky bit of mashed potato. Is it wrong that i'm drooling now just thinking about it?

Bubble and squeak with a poached egg on top! ;)

mine has to be roast lamb with all the trimmings

Toad in the hole

Shepherd's pie, perfect comfort food as the evenings draw in!

A roast dinner, doesn't matter which meat - it's all yummy with roast potatoes, veg and gravy. We have Yorkshire puddings no matter which meat

Roast Beef, yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes, veg and gravy

Roast beef and Yorkshire pudding and crispy roast potatoes

got to be fish and chips!
