Hello compers! How was your weekend, any nice wins to report? Two more prizes for me last week – a Richard & Judy Book Club set from WH Smith on Twitter and a Chicco 123 Baby Walker from a blog comp. Well and truly back into the throw of things now with school, work, clubs and housework - Christmas already seems like quite a long time ago doesn’t it! Hard to believe we are nearly half way through January already though, this year is going just as quickly as the last one. Before we know it we will be in February – exciting times for us as my youngest turns 5, and my eldest heads off on her first school residential trip! I am back into my comping groove now, how about you? Are you managing to stick with your comping resolutions thus far? Mine was to focus on comps I really want to win, and so far I am managing to stick with it!
We are in the quietest time for competitions at the moment, as promoters take a break after the madness that was the advents and December as a whole. That being said there are still tons of fantastic competitions still available to be entering. Here at Compers News we like to keep your comping going, even throughout the quieter months, so here is your monthly exclusive competition just for Compers News members! This month we want to know all about your favourite win of 2014 – doesn’t have to be big or fancy, just the one prize that really made your comping worth it last year! For me it would probably have to be the £200 Liz Earle Ultimate Hamper I won on their Facebook tie-breaker comp. It was such a luxurious treat, something that I would never have bought for myself, that it just encompassed for me what comping is all about – being able to own things or experiences that we wouldn’t normally be able to afford. For telling us your favourite 2014 win you could be bagging yourself £50 of either Tesco or Sainsbury’s shopping vouchers! To enter this comp all you need to do is drop me a comment below before the closing date of 23:59 on Tuesday 20th January 2014, and I will choose my favourite winner after this time. One entry per person please, and remember that comments are moderated and won’t appear immediately.
So get thinking and let me know about all your fantastic 2014 wins, and Compers News could be helping to stock up your kitchen cupboards very soon!
Happy comping and lots of Lucky Dust to you all!
Kirsty x

I won A World Cup Trip with Budweiser, we Flew by private Jet and had full on Hospitality all the way, even though it was a short trip that was over in a blink of an eye, those memories will stay with me forever.

My favourite win from 2014 was a family ticket to Winter Wonderland, we never could have justified the cost & to see my little girl so happy & excited made the win priceless.

My favourite win was a Jimmy Choo clutchbag from Baileys Advent comp via Twitter. I'd only done the RT last minute and I thought the prize was a gold bottle of Bailey's. They messaged and asked my details and size so I clicked on the original tweet and found out I had won a Victoria Beckham dress! As they didn't have my size in stock they asked if I wanted to wait until after Xmas or choose the Jimmy Choo clutch which they had sent details of. I choose the clutch as it will go with many different outifts/occassions and there is no way I would ever be able to afford one. It was a little Cinderella type moment! thanks x

I mainly won books in 2014 but the prize I remember most was the cheese hamper that I won as a runner up prize and when it came there was no cheese in it! It was a lovely small hamper with lots of nice goodies and they did include some vouchers for cheese so you could choose your own.

My favourite win of 2014 was my Compers News Badge. I wear it to our comping meeting, but when not being worn it sits at my comping desk in front of my computer. When wins are thin on the ground it gives me the motivation to carry on. It may not be worth a massive amount of money, but to me it's priceless!!! Thank you to all the team at Compers News.

My favourite win was six bottles of very expensive champagne which we saved to celebrate my partner's 50th and a friend's 60th!! Something we would never have bought ourselves - trouble is, I could get a taste for it......

I was lucky to win some fantastic prizes last year 4k TV, vouchers & lots of other great prizes. My favourite however, was a pair of VIP tickets for the Astronomy Photographer of the Year Awards. Both my husband & my Daughter are keen astronomers & photographers, so the tickets went to them. Jazz ( my daughter) had just passed her astronomy GCSE, having taken it a year early, a few days before so the timing could have been better!. They had the most amazing time meeting the sky at night presenter & many more influential people in the field. This year Jazz is entering some of her own photos into the Young Astronomy Photographer of the Year. It really was a "money can't buy" experience.

My favourite win must be the ice skating tickets and spending money from Glade. Kids had never been skating before so this made us try something new and from looking at the skaters they could see they were not the only wobbly ones nor the only ones to fall over. I think this was a good extra lesson and a confidence boost to try things that you are not so sure to begin with. And of course the yummy food afterwards was an extra bonus!

My fave win was at Christmas when I won a £50 voucher from a local bed shop. I used it to but a top quality, luxury, Egyptian cotton sheet - yes one sheet. I would never have spent this much normally but I guess any win of sheets or shoes is good because if you are not in one you are in the other.
P.S. we are now spoilt to death as this sheet is the Rolls Royce of sheets and nothing else feels as good. Looking out for more comps of this type!

My favourite win was in December 2014 - a London Pride hosted pub tour which took place yesterday evening. We were taken to four lovely old pubs in the City of London, learning lots of things along the way, not to speak of sampling several Fuller's beers and a lovely meal to finish off the evening. But the best bit was meeting a fellow comper and a chance meeting in one of the pubs with a young man who has already emailed me with some very useful health advice. So the best sort of 'money can't buy prize'!

Think my favorite prize was a girly weekend away with afternoon tea with some good lucking bloke from the tele, cocktails and a perfume making experience. This was won on a FB comp. I decided to take my mam as she is fantastic with helping me out with my kids and shes always popping to shops to pick up qualifiers for me, so it was nice to say thank you.
We traveled down by train and stayed at the Cavendish in May fair, ( far too posh for us) really lovely hotel , nice to see how the other half live. The room was fantastic with a bathroom bigger than my sitting room and we had beautiful views across London. The first day we got there was our perfume making afternoon in the Floris perfumary. It was fantastic and so interesting, they showed us a really old ledger with Kings, Queens , Churchill and all sorts of interesting people in it. We both got a beautiful bottle of our own perfume to take away. They also keep our own receipe so it can be made up again if we want any more. So myself and my brother went halfers and had mam another bottle made up as a christmas pressent, she loved it so much.
We were then treated to the most lovely meal i think i have ever had. The restaurant in the hotel had to close fp
or some so the concierge had asked what kind of food we liked and mam loves sea food, i dont , but it was her treat so off we went to an oyster bar called Bentlys. Now he had told us how to get there and it was just round the corned, but we got lost and randomly asked a passer by who was frantically running down the road. The random passer by happened to be Sharon Marshal from the This morning programme, we didnt atually realised this till she ran off again.
So there we were in a posh oyster bar with an open tab, obviously the restaurant new this and just kept bringing us glasses of £32 a shot champagne, which we thought was really funny. We had the most beautiful meal and kept taking photos of our food as it looked so lovely, much to the amusment of all the other customers. Mam even tried oysters, i picked one up then decide that there was no way i could eat it, and thought being sick in a posh restaurant would be quite bad so i left it up to my mam to finish them off. Then we were off to bed a bit tiddly and very full, looking forward to our breakfast in bed, and afternoon tea with tele man.
Breakfast tasted as good as it looked in the pictures of its fancy menu booklet. The weather was glorious so we had a little wander around the sights and i took mam on the London eye for a bit of standing still sight seeing to save our feet. Afternoon soon came and for some reason i was really nervous about tea with the man off the tele. Obviously we had googled the life out of him, and if you goodle Tony craig, tv presenter, actor, footballer and now pro poker player you will see why. His first photos are of when he was on children tv presenter, and my kids said they knew who he was. He is a good looking lad , infact a bit too good looking on some of his less clothed photos(actually none clothed), which my mam found funny while showing all her mates who it was we were going to see. Anyway armed with our google knowledge we went for tea with lots of info to keep the chatting going. When we actually met them i just remember uncontrolably blushing, and thats not like me. Although then i had reason to when my mam came out with. "hi Tony weve been googling you and ive seen pics of you with nothing on" Please floor open up and take me now. We ordered tea and i just wanted a normal cuppa but actually ordered something with leaves and twigs floating in it. It also tasted like it had leaves and twigs in it, you wouldnt wanna waist dunking a biccy in it. Once i had calmed down from my mams we are stalkers comment we actualy had a really nice time and in the end felt quite relaxed and full of cake. Tony and his PR friend were really nice and we all got on well he was interesting to talk to and was really interested in my new found hobby, he was also a bit jealous that we went to Bentleys the night before. Anyway tea was over and we both waddeled back to our room.
We had cocktails ordered for 7,30 so had a rest then went down to the bar. We sat at the bar and asked the bar staff what we could order, i though one cocktail each was the plan and was more than happy with than. The barman said he would go and find out what was going on. He came back with a smile on his face and said "its 7,30 now and the bar closes when you leave you can order what you like." OMG was not enough we couldnt stop laughing, but stopped breifly to say ohhh just make us something nice. Well one something nice turned into quite a few some thing nices, i think the bar staff just enjoyed making them. There were cocktails i had never even heard of let alone tasted. If they couldnt think of something we would just make it up and add alcohol. We only realized some of what we had when we looked at our photos in the morning. There was green things, blue things and long tea things with a little bit of raw egg going on at one point. In the end i knew i had had enough when the girl behind the bar just started bringing us sandwiches and nibbles to soak it all up. Then i think they sent us to bed. We were lying chuckling to ourselves in bed we decided that taking selfies and posting to friends would be a good idea. Again we only found this out in the morning and , think it possibly wasnt a good idea. Anyway a bit of ahead ache and a good breakfast in bed again and we were up, said a big thank you to all the staff and were on our way home.
We both had such a magical time and i could never afford to do something like this. It was lovely to be so well looked after and spoiled for a couple of days. I wrote a letter of thanks to the girl who had helped organize our trip and to the Cavendish, explaining how my mam had said when we left she felt like she had been treated like a queen. It was a fantastic trip but i think that the most special thing was seeing my mam have a thoughally fantastic time and treating her to something that is way out of my budget.
A Very special time , Thanks Cavendish, Thanks mam xx

My favourite 2014 win was a photo competition run by our local paper. You had to send in a photo of a 'perfect pairing' to win specsavers vouchers and a rugged camera. I love photography and had just taken some lovely shots of my daughter and my neice who are very close, up the hill. They had been laughing and giggling and I had taken photos when they didnt realise and some of them came out beautifully - really natural and fun. I was so pleased to be the winner - I love winning when I feel I have made an effort and I was chuffed to bits. I have never had a pair of designer sunglasses, purely because I refuse to pay silly amounts of money but the vouchers I won got me prescription sunglasses which I love. The rugged camera is brilliant as I can use it in rain and its easy to take out and about. A great prize :)

I had an excellent prize winning 2014 but my favourite was £5,000 I won at the beginning of the year. I had a 7-seater car but really wanted a smaller one, as soon as the winning letter arrived I knew that is what I would be getting. I drove all over the place looking for my ideal car and eventually found it in Scotland. I live in Hampshire so it was a very long drive going to get it but I wasn't disappointed. I love my little car and I felt like I'd won two prizes.

My favourite win was the £1000 of holiday vouchers from Cottages4You. To win, I had to submit 25 photos to their Big Kids Bingo and each photo had to be in a category of things you do as a family eg making a sandcastle, having a picnic. I was so lucky to be picked and so thrilled. We've booked a holiday and are able to take another family with us for a short break in 2015. Really looking forward to this.

My favourite win from 2014 was Afternoon Tea at The Ritz with spending money, value wise it was not my biggest win but far the best for me. Life is all about experiences for me and this is an experience I am looking forward to ticking off my list in 2015, it is one that I certainly am not in a position to purchase and it has also doubled up a special Birthday present for my best friend who celebrates a big birthday this year. The day hopefully will be extra special for her as we have managed to contact her brother who she has not seen for many years and we have also arranged to meet up with him as he lives in London.

My favourite win from 2014 was a VIP 2 night break to Buxton. (A photo competition on Twitter), Buxton were looking for photos of your interpretation of pumped up. I had a great shot I took on holiday of a man doing a summersault into water which won me the prize. The prize included rail travel , Full Bed & Breakfast at the Old Hall (right in the centre of Buxton), 2 evening meals , one in the hotel on the first night and one in a local Thai restaurant the second night, tickets to the theatre to see West End Musicals , a morning spa session with treatments then afternoon tea/cakes, they also gave us a FREE BAR for the weekend so all our drinks were included too. (We certainly made use of this) . We asked the promoters if we could have a petrol allowance rather than take the train which they kindly agreed to so we were reimbursed with all our petrol costs. It was an amazing fun packed weekend, I give the promoters Buxton 10/10 . Total Cost for the weekend was £000.00

My favourite win was £500
My favourite win was £500 worth of Morrisons voucher won with Velvet tissues just before Christmas. It certainly helped out with the shopping and it was lovely to be able to share them with friends and family.

My favourite prize in 2014
My favourite prize in 2014 was several hundred pounds worth of Ticketmaster vouchers won from various competitions. We had great fun spending them and have already seen Let it Be, Lee Mack, Status Quo and Aladdin panto. We are also booked to see Mamma Mia in March so we have something else to look forward to. All these fabulous nights out for free and all down to my great comping hobby!
My best win was a two night
My best win was a two night break in Dornoch Castle Hotel - we did not manage to sleep in the turret bedroom as my husband is disabled and could not manage the stairs, however it was a lovely treat in a fab location.

I had an excellent prize

My favourite win from 2014
My favourite win from 2014 was Afternoon Tea at The Ritz with spending money, value wise it was not my biggest win but far the best for me.

By far my favourite win was a bottle of scented Zoflora from a Christmas on-line grime-busting game. It certainly wasn't my biggest win of 2014, but it meant I had achieved a win beginning with the letter Z, and a full house in the Compers News A-Z of prizes competition!!
My favourite win from 2014
My favourite win from 2014 was a VIP 2 night break to Buxton.
