As you are probably aware, there was a major global cyber-security alert last week which affected millions of websites across the world.

As a precaution, the Compers News site was taken offline, and following a security review, the decision was taken to completely rebuild the site rather than just ‘patch’ it.

This meant that the site has been unavailable for longer than planned, but it goes without saying that we are not prepared to risk the security of customer data.

A few observations re: the new Compers News website:

The most-used content is currently in place. Legacy content will be re-added in the coming days and weeks.

The new website should be a major improvement for mobile users, and you should also see faster loading and much-improved security.

For Express subscribers, there’s a new, improved Comp Tracker with user-customisable folders.  Unfortunately, any existing Comp Tracker data will not carry forward to the new site.

The in-house comp/puzzle entry form works but will be tweaked over time – we just wanted to ensure that members could submit their October entries in time if they haven’t already done so.

One major change is that subscribers will now be required to create a user account on compersnews.com and add their member ID(s) to their profile. I appreciate that you might consider this all a bit of a faff to start with, but it is FAR more secure than relying on Member ID and Postcode login alone, and it also allows us to more easily bypass the third-party Customer Service paywall should problems arise with that (as they have done in the past).

Please email any comments or feedback re the new website to admin@compersnews.com.

Please bear in mind that you are not yet seeing the full, finished article, but if there is anything missing that you think definitely SHOULD be there, then please do get in touch.

And lastly, I do apologise for the disruption caused by this episode but I hope you understand we take online security very seriously, and our first responsibility will always be the online safety of you, our lovely members.
