Compers News Members Benefits - The Wonderful Windex Database

Hello everyone!  How is your week going, any nice wins to report?  I managed a hat trick on Monday winning a book from Goodreads, a set of Sylvanian Families playing cards from a Twitter comp and a £25 John Lewis voucher from a Twitter party with Tots100.  I love Twitter parties and have a great success rate of wins from them.  I didn’t even tweet many times for this particular party as I didn’t think I had much to contribute as it was about babies, so just goes to show!  Having a really busy week this week getting ready for our camping trip, eldest daughter’s 9th birthday and the impending summer holidays, so it is really nice to still see wins coming through even though my time has bene predominantly spent elsewhere of late.

When times get short and my coping threatens to take a back seat I often try and get more selective with the prizes I enter.  I like to make sure I do all the holiday & short breaks comps every day if I can, and then try and prioritise my time for comps that I think will be lower entry – usually local comps and creative entry.  I love to do photo and video entry competitions and I have been known to delve into the tie breaker and caption world too.  I have a good success rate with cation comps, but these are definitely fewer and farther between these days.

When you do find some good caption and tie breaker comps it makes sense to try and give yourself as much of a winning edge as you can.  As Compers News members you have access to an invaluable source of help and tips for these kinds of competitions – The Windex DatabaseThe Windex Database is a unique collection of past winning slogans from competitions spanning the last 30 years – that’s an awful lot of slogans!  By searching for a specific promoter or key word you will be able to see past competitions of a similar theme, and more importantly the slogans that won those competitions.  In this way you will be able to get some inspiration for your own slogans, without actually duplicating entries.

To get you going here are some useful tips for getting the most out of the Windex Database:

  • Search one word at a time.  You will get a broader set of results if you search for just one word at a time, say “summer” rather than “summer holiday”
  • Search for a brand.  Try searching for specific brands or sub-themes when using the database too, for example “Thomson”, “cruise” or “Greece” in our example will narrow your search criteria and give you more specific results
  • Brainstorm.  Think of all the words that come to mind when you think of a theme or brand.  In our example of “summer” maybe try searching holiday, sunshine, seaside, beach and other words that spring to mind, and use these as further inspiration.

So pop over to The Windex Database now and have a play – I bet you will be surprised how useful you find it, and how much inspiration it gives you for your next tie breaker and slogan competition entry – good luck!

Happy comping everyone, and lots of Lucky dust to you all!
