Comping Clubs

Hello again compers!  How is your week going, any nice wins to report?  Just a small one for me so far this week – I won a cuddly puppy on the McVities Sweeet Friends promotion on their biscuits!  I now need to try and win another one so that there is no in-fighting amongst our girls!  Chest infection looks like it might, very slowly, be on the way out - I have even managed a few comping sessions this week, thanks to the copious amounts of football that seems to be on the TV!  Still plugging away with the holiday and short break comps, and am ever hopeful!

I am very fortunate that my husband is so tolerant to my comping hobby, as it can be quite time consuming at certain points of the year like Christmas.  My husband has even been known to have a comp himself, and has won himself some nice prizes.  I am also lucky that thanks to my work with Compers News I have “met” lots of other lovely compers through social media networks, who I can chat to about comping and can share comps and advice with.  I think it is very important to have a group of friends who you can talk to who are as mad about comping as you are – It means you can all look out for each other’s names in winning lists, can share comps others might be interested in and can even make arrangements to swap qualifiers and entry forms between yourselves.

A lot of these friendships seem to happen online these days via social networks and also forums such as The Chatterbox.  Back in the day however these friendships would have been made and maintained at local Comping Clubs, where friends could meet to chat, swap comps and share tips and tricks.  These Comping Clubs are definitely on the wane unfortunately, but there are still lots in existence throughout the country – new ones are even being set up to cope with the recent flood of compers to the hobby over the last few years, spurred on by seeing high profile winners’ stories in the press.

As a Compers News member you have a great resource at your fingertips, to find out about local Comping Clubs to you - within the Chatterbox Forum there is a section entitled “Comping Clubs and Get Togethers”.  Here you will find listed details of all the current comping groups throughout the country that other members belong to, details of when they are next meeting and where, and also requests for people to join possible new groups.  I was contacted by a fellow Isle of Wight comper on Facebook this week, and I think it would be nice to try and get a group of us on the Island to meet regularly to discuss our fabulous hobby and swap comps.  If you would like to find or create a Comping Club in your area, then look no further than the Chatterbox Forum, and either look for existing groups, or maybe even post a request for people to contact you if they are interested in setting up a new one.

Getting together with other compers is a great way to develop your comping skills, connections and to make some fabulous friends too.  So head over to the Chatterbox Forum and see if there are any other compers local to where you live.  Do let us know how you get on; we would love to hear about what you get up to at your Comping Club!

Happy comping and lots of Lucky Dust to you all!
