Creative Christmas Comping Advice

Hello again compers!  How has your week been, any nice wins to report?  A few more bits and bobs here including an anti-redness cream from the Sk:n Clinics Advent, a lifetime membership to QHotels Breakaway Membership programme from their Advent, and a PL-UG den-building kit on the Kids One Stop Shop Advent – Advent wins coming on nicely.  Can’t believe it is the 10th December already!  The Christmas turkey has been ordered, the presents are starting to be wrapped, the cards have been sent - safe to say Family Greer are well on the way to Christmas!  How about you, do all the Christmas preparations get in the way of your comping?  What hints and tips do you have for juggling everything this time of year?

Do you like to enter the advent competitions that pop up this time of year, or do you tend to stick with your regular comps and let everyone else focus on the advents.  One way to get involved with the Christmas comps, without getting into the advents proper, is to join in with some of the Christmas Creative comps that always seem to pop up in the second half of December and beyond.  I thought I would offer some hints and tips on how you can get involved with entering these comps:

  • Take lots of photos.  This time of year promoters like us to get creative.  Take lots of photos of your Christmas tree, your festive food, your Christmas jumpers, your room decorations and even your Christmas dinner on the big day itself - anything you think might make a good competition picture.  Take photos from different angels, with different lights and with different people in them.
  • Think outside the box.  Don’t just take the regular “me in front of my tree” photos – think outside the box.  How about taking your photo from a funny angel, adding a family pet or with some cuddly toys instead of people - anything that would make your photo stand out.  Make sure you get lots of photos with you in them too – everyone takes pictures of their children and grandchildren this time of year, promoters will remember your photo if it stands out as something different.
  • Try your hand at some Christmas crafting.  Do you have a talent for card making, crochet or making decorations?  There are usually a nice glut of competitions that require you to send a photo of something festive that you have made.  Even something simple can be fun to make and may net you some nice prizes.  Trawl the internet and Pinterest for some inspiration.
  • Get cooking.  Christmas baking and cooking is a great way to get some comp entries in too.  Promoters like to see your festive food creations this time of year – what is your Christmas party piece?  For me I always make homemade sausage rolls, and take lots of yummy looking photos of them too.  Do you make a mean mince pie, or do you create cracking Christmas cakes?  Get in the kitchen and get snapping – what a fun way to get the family involved in Christmas preparations, and good for stockpiling comp photos too!
  • Put pen to paper.  Are you a wordy wonder?  Can you come up with fun and interesting poems, or maybe even a short story that is Christmas themed?  There are always some great competitions this time of year looking for festive tales, poems and even jokes.  Get your thinking caps on, use the Windex database maybe, and try your hand at writing some winning words for Christmas comps.
  • Get the kids involved.  What better way to spend a December weekend, than making homemade decorations, cookies, cards or pictures with the children or grandchildren.  Children love to get creative this time of year and promoters love to see their work.  Have a browse through Pinterest for some great, easy crafts ideas for kids, and then take lots of photos.  When you see a good kids creative comp come up, you will have plenty of stock to choose from to enter with.

So there you have it, whatever your interest or your talent you could be using your creative streak to win some lovely prizes this Christmas.  Do let us know how you get on – we love to hear from you!

Happy creative comping everyone, and lots of Lucky Dust to you all!
