Major new comp offers Scottish breaks

There are five Scottish break experiences on offer in a new VisitScotland and Hilton Hotels competition.

And VisitScotland's chief executive, Malcolm Roughead, has promised that the five people who win "will enjoy countless brilliant moments whilst having the time of their lives!"

There's plenty of time to try your luck on this comp, which closes May 19th, according to the T&Cs.

One of the prizes features a stay in Dundee for two, a trip on the RRS Discovery, a stint in Edinburgh, a champagne picnic, a Dundee stay, a tour on a steamship and some travel allowance.

Another starts off in Glasgow, with a two person stay, before hitting Coylumbridge and Edinburgh. The winner, and whoever they head away with, will get to ride the funicular Railway thanks to Cairngorm Mountain, as well as visit Edinburgh Zoo. Again, some travel allowance is included.

The winner of a separate prize will get a two person stay in Ballater and head to Aberdeen for a stint at two hotels. This prize also features Lornach Gathering tickets, a Nick Nairn’s Cook School cookery experience, a meal at the Native by Nick Nairn Restaurant and travel allowance.

And another winning entrant and friend will get a trip starting with a stay in Glasgow, followed by a stint in Edinburgh at two different hotels.

They'll see a Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo performance, get a Tower Top Bridge Tour, experience an Edinburgh International Festival and Edinburgh Festival Fringe performance and hit the Book festival for another event, as well as visiting the Art Festival. There are (you'll be able to predict by now!) some travel expenses included.

A fifth winner and friend begin their trip in Glasgow, and hit Strathclyde and Dunkeld for stays too. They'll see part of the Ryder Cup and get some complimentary transport to and from Gleneagles, as well as travel allowance. It should be noted that all the prizes relate to specific dates.

It shouldn't take more than two minutes to fill in the details asked for on the competition's online form, which you can see here.

This has made us think of all the holiday competitions out there - so we thought we'd also take our search a little further afield than Scotland!

For example, at the moment, the Waitrose website is promoting a New Zealand break comp - you can't really escape much further afield than NZ!

It's an on-pack comp, and you can enter it via the Waitrose site by inputting the barcode number from Craggy Range wine or Longdown lamb items. The competition will be on until June 13th this year. The big prize is a New Zealand trip, flights and accommodation included.

The winner and someone they know will also look around the Craggy Range Winery, experience wine tasting and dine at the Craggy Range Terroir Restaurant.

If you don't fancy buying wine or lamb to get your comping fix, never fear, there are plenty of no-purchase necessary holiday competitions out there too.

Lonely Planet Traveller and the German National Tourist Office are giving away a Bavarian rail holiday prize in a competition coming to a close on May 11th, for example.

It's an online entry form comp with a prize featuring first class InterRailing, flights, accommodation and more for two. The Terms and Conditions can be seen here.

Whizzing back to the other side of the globe, and for a comp that has the closest closing date of our collection today, compers have until April 10th to get their hands on a chance to win a Japanese holiday with The Sunday Times Travel Magazine.

This features the likes of flights, meals and a ten night long tour: 'Bullet Trains, Blossoms and Mount Fuji' for whoever wins and their chosen companion.

Holidays can sometimes seem like the sort of prize that is just too good to ever actually win. But every comp has to have a winner! Have any of you blog readers ever got your hands on a great holiday prize? Go on, make us jealous with your wins!
