More winning chances in the run-up to Christmas

With prizes from make-up to film box-sets there are plenty of opportunities to try your luck in a comp as Christmas approaches. The excitement of winning would surely be a great gift, so in between the Christmas shopping, deciding where to buy the turkey and all the jobs of Christmas, remember to sit down and indulge in your favourite hobby!

We'll start with a comp with a very imminent closing date. Compers have until the end of December 13th (Friday) to try their luck at a current Mirror and Walking With Dinosaurs: the 3D Movie competition, the news provider reports.

One for cinema fans, the prize is four tickets to a special screening of the film, which will take place December 15th this year. There's a question to answer and a short entry form to fill in. The question is about the film itself, and the type of dinosaur the character of Patchi is. If you're not sure, the Mirror article about the comp mentions the answer!

The film features Charlie Rowe as the voice of Ricky, as well as actors like Skyler Stone and Karl Urban, and will hit UK cinemas on December 20th.

Talking of films, fans of this sort of entertainment are being treated to a great promotion over at Empire Online - the website of famous film magazine, Empire. This Advent comp is in full swing, and promises to give people the chance to get a prize each day between now and the 24th.

Prizes from December days that have already been and gone include the likes of a Harry Potter Blu-ray box sex and a tablet computer. The comp is a partnership between Empire and HMV.

Some of the big upcoming prizes include a PS3 (December 16th) and an 'Ultimate Festive Film Collection' (December 24th). You have to register with Empire Online to enter, which shouldn't take long.

Meanwhile, there's an Observer Magazine comp available on the Guardian websiteat the moment with a brilliantly posh prize! The winner gets a Dolce & Gabbana clutch bag and the Dolce & Gabbana Sicilian Jewels collection. The comp, which comes to a close December 22nd this year, has a simple entry form - no comp question here!

Here's an interesting one for anyone who loves the great outdoors. The Ordnance Survey website features a current comp with runners up prizes like walkers' first aid kits and water bottles and a main prize of an outdoor adventure kit with a value of over £400.

Winners are being randomly selected January 2nd next year, and the big prize features a Garmin VIRB Elite action camera, a custom-made map, a year's subscription for OS gatamap, and various other bits of travel kit.

Finally on the current comp front, here's a competition that there's still lots of time left to enter - in fact, a winner isn't set to be picked until this coming March, but it's still being described as a Christmas comp!

This Nspa comp's prize is a two person spa break in Thailand, and there's no question, just an entry form.

Remember that, if you're looking for lots of current comps to enter, Compers News is one of the best places to find them, as is The Prize Finder, a website from the publisher of Compers News.

Winner news

One last thing before we sign-off on this blog. Some time back we reported on John Lewis' ReWorked competition - which asked people to sing Somewhere Only We Know by Keane and post the result on YouTube.

Since then, a winner has been announced in the shape of Leicester's Matthew Fearon, according to the John Lewis YouTube channel. Now he'll get his own take on the song used as the soundtrack to the John Lewis festive advert - The Bear & The Hare - when a special version of it airs on December 25th. Keane helped to judge him the winner.
